All Golfers Need A Golf Divot Tool

One of my biggest pet peeves while golfing is following proper golf etiquette around the greens. Think about the percentage of our strokes taken on and around the greens in an average round of golf. Doesn’t every golfer want to have the best chance to have their score reflect their shot quality rather than hitting out of footprints in bunkers or having their putts go offline due to ball marks on the green?

Every golfer on every golf course should be required to carry a golf divot tool. Starters at golf courses should check every golfer and make sure they have a golf divot tool before they start their round of golf. If a golfer does not have one, they should not be allowed to play their round until they get one. In an expensive sport, divot tools are one of the least expensive items required so there is no reason for any golfer not to have one.

If every golfer took the time to repair at least one ball mark on each green, the game of golf would become much more enjoyable for everyone. A simple divot tool costs just a couple of dollars, and if every golfer took the steps to buy one and actually use it, more putts would roll where they were hit instead of going offline. the result of that would be more made putts and less strokes on the score card.

Take it one step further. Repair your ball mark. Then repair one more. Do this on every green. When you see a golfer who does not repair his ball mark, don’t let it pass. Remind him of his duty to his fellow golfers. Make him feel a little bad about what he did not do. I bet the next time he repairs that ball mark, and maybe even one more. And you will have made our game just a little bit more enjoyable.

The issue of having a golf divot tool is very important to all golfers. So important that all golfers should consider not only carrying a divot tool, but giving them to your fellow golfers. Divot tools are very inexpensive. Buy several and give them out at your course. Begin a trend for smoother greens, one green at a time.
