Warming up For a Round of Golf

When warming up for a game of golf, many golfers think that hitting the driving range is enough. Basically, before each round of golf you should practice swinging different clubs and get acquainted with the weather conditions. Golf on a windy day is much different than if the day is calm and your golf game is also influenced by the temperature; whether it is hot or cold. Here are some warm-up tips to take into consideration before starting your game of golf.

When you warm-up by visiting the range you need to first carry out some stretching movements. Next use a driver and swing the club backwards and forwards several times without using a ball; you are just looking to warm-up and stretch your muscles. Do a complete golf swing but do not stop after the follow through; continue the swing in the opposed direction and so on.

The Driving Range and Practice Green

You should not start off with a driver because you will want to begin gently. Instead, select a short iron to begin hitting some golf balls so that your muscles warm up. Progressively continue up through your middle irons, long irons, woods, and finally your driver. Whilst using your driver, remember that the objective is not to attempt to hit the ball as far as possible; instead you need to be practicing control and accuracy. Just as on the golf course, you have to apply control from the tee; you will no be using your driver from every tee, so on the range you need to learn how to control your shots.

The bulk of the golf shots in a round of golf are made from under 100 yards from the pin. Therefore you need to practice also your short game and putting before your round of golf. Ideally, you should spend more time on the short game and less with the driver. The idea about warming up for golf is to achieve a repeatable swing so that you can take it onto the course.

The Mental Game of Golf

One warm-up method that is often overlooked is the golf mindset. When you arrive at the first tee, the objective isn’t to take any frustrations you may have out on the golf ball – that will not help your game at all. Take time to focus on your game, get composed, and forget about your problems. Worries or a bad temper can have negative effects on your game.

Warm-Up Do’s and Don’ts

Before playing a round of golf, a warm up routine is not the moment to experiment with new clubs, switch swing styles, or try out any other new techniques. It is a period when you endeavor to play your best game as if you were in the middle of a game. It is fine to attempt a new technique but only if you have been practicing it already, and you want to try it out on the course. The key point of the warm up session is to stretch your muscles, build your self belief, and become focused on the game at hand.
